One location where you won’t find crowds of people is Montserrat. The monastery is about an hour from Barcelona and, although it is a popular pilgrimage site, you won’t encounter the same number of visitors as you would in the city center.

Getting there is easy. You can take a train from Barcelona and then choose between two options to reach the top: the rack railway (“Cremallera”), a small train that climbs the mountain, or the cable car, which takes you through the air and drops you off almost at the same place.

Once there, you have two main options. You can spend your time hiking through the mountains and enjoying the incredible scenery, or you can visit the famous monastery.

If you’re planning a proposal, you can do it in front of the monastery itself, or at a hidden spot that is easy to reach and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Once you arrive by train from Barcelona, you can reach Montserrat using either the Montserrat Rack Railway (Cremallera de Montserrat) or the Montserrat Cable Car (Aeri de Montserrat).
