If you are planning a surprise proposal in Barcelona, choosing the right location is key. As a local proposal photographer, I have seen many couples take this big step, and I want to share my personal top 5 spots and some secret gems to make your moment perfect.

This is an absolutely incredible area, with the Barcelona Cathedral as a stunning backdrop. The Gothic Quarter has a magical light; its historic atmosphere and stone walls provide the perfect frame for an incredible proposal. Also, unlike other locations, the surrounding area is full of secret spots where we can do a complete photo session afterward to capture every emotion.

If you are looking for the most international icon of Barcelona, it is undoubtedly the Sagrada Familia. This cathedral is unique in the world for its architectural style and is the perfect background for a marriage proposal. Recommendation: if you want to avoid the crowds, the best time is early in the morning.

If there is one thing that defines Barcelona, it’s the beach. The Mediterranean water, the palm trees, and the colors of the sky make it an idyllic place. Recommendation: the best time is early morning to avoid the crowds, especially in summer. In the afternoon, the sunset is amazing, but keep in mind it gets very busy during high season.

This is a classic. Another masterpiece by Gaudí, this park is huge and full of amazing spots for couple photos. Recommendation: book your tickets in advance! Don’t wait until the same day because they often sell out. The best time for a quiet proposal is early morning or the last hour of the afternoon.

Park Güell costs €18 per person, and if you want the photos there, you will need to get a ticket for me as well.

The Cascada Monumental is absolutely majestic. The best part? You can go there throughout the day because the park is so large that, even if there are people, it doesn’t feel as crowded as other landmarks. Like the Gothic Quarter, it offers many different spots for incredible photos within the same area.

If you want a panoramic view of the entire city, this is a great option. From the MNAC Museum, you have an incredible view of Barcelona. Early morning is ideal, as is late afternoon (though morning is much quieter).

An amazing, fairytale-like garden. They open at 10:00 AM, and you will be absolutely alone. If you want privacy, this is the best spot without a doubt. Note: It is a bit far from the city center. There’s an entrance fee, but it’s extremely cheap; I think it’s around €2.

Another spot with the city at your feet. Important update: Opening hours are now 9:00 to 17:30 in winter and 9:00 to 19:30 in summer. Be careful: you won’t see the sunset there in summer because the police clear the area at 19:15 to close. My advice? Go at 9:00 AM when they open. It is not in the city center, so you will need to use public transport and walk a bit.

• Montserrat. A breathtaking mountain with a historic monastery. The views are legendary.
• Tossa de Mar. In the Costa Brava, a small beach with blue water and an incredible castle for photos.
• Marimurtra Botanical Gardens. A unique spot. Keep in mind you have to pay a fee (last time it was 145 euros, but check for updates) to take proposal photos there. It is worth every cent.
• Cadaqués. My favorite spot on the Costa Brava. White houses, blue sea, and a dream location. Go at sunset; Cadaqués will not disappoint. Note: It is about a 2-hour drive from Barcelona, but it is worth every minute of the trip!
